This park is where adventure begins. Just off the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 115, Explore Park features hundreds of acres of rolling hills, pristine woodlands, hiking trails, river frontage, historical buildings and a visitor information center. You can even stay overnight in a primitive campsite, canvas tent or pod cabin for extra added adventure.
Whether you’re looking to bike, hike, canoe, picnic, or learn more about all Roanoke County has to offer, Explore Park also houses the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center where you’ll find information about the Parkway and the Roanoke Valley. Stop inside the visitor center to browse the gift shop featuring artisan crafts and parkway memorabilia.

The park is operated by Roanoke County Parks, Recreation and Tourism and loved by both residents and visitors just alike.
Explore over 14 miles of beautiful trails as they wind through hundreds of amazing acres of deciduous forest. This forest is wonderfully comprised mainly of oak, beech, maple, pine and many other poplar trees. You will even encounter a variety of gorgeous ecosystems along your way through, ranging from natural wetlands to fertile sloping hillsides.
Explore Park is a designated site on the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail. The many natural surface trails range in difficulty from easy to moderately difficult as terrain varies throughout the entire park and includes various restored local historical structures along with access to the Roanoke River for recreational use for a memorable time outdoors.
